An Overview of Puerto Princesa Tour Options

Tour packages are watched over by the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Office.* They regulate trips to ensure safety and fairness across all tours, tourists, and tour operators. It also means all tours are offered in standardized packages.
For example, all Underground River Tour Packages include roundtrip transfers, lunch buffet, entrance fees, tour guides, etc.
Here’s a (non-exhaustive) list of the available Tour Packages monitored by the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Office. All tour rates are for the standardized packages and do not include the one-time environmental fee of Php150.00 per person. The issued environmental fee is valid for 6 months for an unlimited number of tours.

  • Underground River: Will require one full day and starts at 7-8 am
  • Honda Bay Island Hopping: Will require one full day and starts at 7-8 am
  • City Tour: Half-day tour with morning and afternoon options. The morning tour starts at 7-8 am while the afternoon tour starts at 1-2 pm.
  • Firefly Watching Tour: Night tour that starts at 5-6 pm and ends at 10 pm.

Other favorite activities include pasalubong (gift) shopping and dining at local restaurants. Pasalubong pretty much means free time for shopping, eating, and others. Other lesser-known tours include trips to Estrella Falls, Nagtabon Beach, Acacia Tunnel, and so much more!

How to Use the Table Guides

  • Select a row based on the Arrival and Departure columns
    • Flights are assumed to arrive on time. Cancellations due to flight delays are subject to your tour operator’s policies.
    • Early hotel checkouts are recommended. Most hotels store your luggage at no extra cost. We certainly do!
  • Each time block will include tour options separated by “/.” Please choose one.
    • Example: City Tour/Underground River means you can choose between the 2 options. It DOES NOT mean City Tour AND Underground River.
    • You are of course free to swap one of the packaged tours with a trip that’s not listed in the overview section.
  • The recommended itinerary, based on the maximum number of tours possible, is highlighted.

How Many Days in Palawan

2 Days 1 Night (Overnight)

When you’re really pressed for time, an overnight stay can (surprisingly) fit 3 tours! Overnight stays are not recommended though if the only available flights are an afternoon arrival and morning departure.

The 3D2N is the most popular option among travelers. Again, it’s the morning arrival and afternoon departure combination that allows the most tours at 4. For a 3D2N stay, these are the Underground River, Honda Bay Island Hopping, Firefly Watching, and the Morning City Tour.

The second most popular option adds another town to the mix. With a 4D3N stay, and a morning arrival and afternoon departure flight schedule, it’s possible to add an El Nido Day Tour to your itinerary. Fair warning though, the Puerto Princesa-to-El Nido trip takes 5 to 6 hours, one way.

1 Week in Palawan

Your choices increase by so much the longer you stay in Palawan. Indeed, a Palawan 1 week itinerary is flexible enough to embrace all the tours we’ve mentioned, but at a relaxed pace. Rather than travel to El Nido overnight, for instance, you may extend your stay and not have to travel 5 or 6 hours back-to-back.

Or you may also include San Vicente trips, Balabac, and so much more.

Our Recommendations

As residents of Puerto Princesa, we’re a bit biased. But for full transparency, El Nido has 4 types of island hopping tours (i.e., Tours A, B, C, and D). For extended stays, you may certainly lean towards an itinerary that’s heavy on El Nido tours.

For a relaxed trip, we recommend adding 1 day to whichever Puerto Princesa itinerary you prefer. This is not required, but we’ve found travelers to be exhausted at the end of a jam-packed stay. That said, if pressed for time, the suggested Puerto Princesa itineraries (“Palawan itineraries” actually, considering the El Nido trips) will definitely work

To really make the most of your time in Palawan, we recommend booking a morning arrival flight (before 7 or 8 am) and an afternoon (5 pm) or evening departure flight. This combination makes it possible to add one more tour to your itinerary — whether that’s an overnight stay or a 5D4N adventure!
